Photos: Gaza Mothers Endure Endless Lines as Fear of Famine Persists
Hunger has gripped Gaza, with more than 1.4 million people facing severe food shortages, as aid is insufficient to meet basic needs.
Every morning, Palestinian mother Niaha al-Masri leaves her tent in Khan Yunis and joins the long line outside the kitchen, hoping to end the hours-long wait with a meal for her family of 10.
More than a year after a "ceasefire" between Hamas and Israel that was supposed to open the way for food to the devastated region, hunger continues to define the daily lives of many Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Al-Masri says that without the kitchen, which is run by humanitarian groups, his family would have "nothing at all." On a recent day, after six hours in line, he returned in the afternoon with four bowls of rice, lentils and a small portion of chicken—the family's only meal of the day.
