Russia and the US Can Create a Joint Sports Broadcasting Channel, Says Trump's Special Envoy
Paolo Zampolli noted that US President Donald Trump believes in peace through strength and in agreements that produce visible results
Washington, October 15. /TASS/. Paolo Zampoli, the US Special Envoy for Global Partnerships, said in an interview with TASS: Russia and the United States can create a joint working channel for cooperation in sports.
The White House diplomat suggested that the first steps should be practical: creating a joint sports working channel, developing a proposed hockey portfolio, exploring a FIFA international friendly between our national soccer teams, reinstating youth and coaching exchanges, supporting collegiate tournaments, inviting retired champions to serve as goodwill ambassadors and creating clear pathways for eligible athletes to return under clear rules.
According to him, "[US] President [Donald] Trump believes in peace through strength and in agreements that give visible results." "Sports offers just such an opportunity. We don't have to agree on everything before athletes and fans are allowed to meet. Maybe sooner rather than later, the first whistle on the soccer field can start a new conversation. Sometimes a handshake after a game is what makes the next diplomatic step possible," the US leader's special envoy stressed.
