New Details Revealed on Canceled Resident Evil 9; Leon, Jill, Ada and Shewa Were Set to Be the Main Characters

New information has recently emerged about the canceled early version of Resident Evil 9, a project that apparently was in development at one point under the codename Resident Evil Apocalypse. Based on this information

Recently, new information about the canceled and early version of Resident Evil 9 has been revealed; A project that was apparently under development at one point under the code name Resident Evil Apocalypse.

According to this unofficial information, Capcom initially intended to create an open world and action-oriented work with the presence of several main characters, but in the middle decided to reboot the development process and abandon many of the initial ambitious ideas.

According to recent revelations, the events of Resident Evil Apocalypse were supposed to take place on a fictional island located in Singapore. In this version, four familiar and popular faces of this franchise, namely Lian S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Ida Wang, and Shua Alomar, along with two brand new characters, were tasked with driving the main story forward.

The storyline of this canceled project was told directly after the events of Resident Evil Village. One of the most important story nodes at the very beginning of the game was the arrest of Chris Redfield, and the character of Shawa Alomar embarked on this dangerous mission with the motivation to save him.

However, the relationship between these heroes was not to be so peaceful. Lian was highly distrustful of Jill due to her history of cooperation with the BSAA organization, and Shua was suspicious of Ida Wang. These tensions and disagreements flowed continuously throughout the story, and new reports suggest that there were numerous verbal conflicts between the main characters.

More interestingly, the BSAA organization itself played the role of the main antagonist (enemy) in this version; A story approach that perfectly matched the ending of Resident Evil Village, where Chris finds out about the organization's use of bio-soldiers.

The gameplay structure at that time had fundamental differences with the current Resident Evil 9 project. Players would be in the middle of a massive viral outbreak on the island and could use different vehicles to navigate this vast and open-world environment.

Leaked information shows that Capcom used technologies and infrastructure to create this open-world environment that were previously designed for the development of titles such as Dragon's Dogma 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds. Accordingly, Resident Evil Apocalypse was supposed to become one of the most ambitious versions in the history of this series in terms of its scope and environmental dimensions.

Another key mechanic of this version was the implementation of a system called the Infection Meter, which was directly inspired by the classic game Resident Evil Outbreak. This system monitored the level of viral infection of the characters during the game and could have direct effects on the gameplay and survival of the player.

Despite the simultaneous presence of several playable characters, the project was not considered an online multiplayer title. Instead, the developers focused on delivering a larger story campaign that was heavily weighted towards action battles rather than horror and survival elements.

Finally, Capcom executives were not satisfied with the progress of this version and decided to completely reboot the project. Following this decision, the number of main characters was greatly reduced and Leanne Kennedy was once again chosen as the central character of the new project.

After the game was rebooted, Jill Valentine was initially still in the story, but she lost her place as a playable character and only played the role of an AI-controlled companion. However, in the later stages of development, the production team decided that her presence did not contribute much to the progress of the narrative, and thus, Jill was also completely removed from the game's story.

Of all the ideas in the original version, the concept of a character experiencing horror and survival for the first time remained intact in the rebooted project. This conceptual idea matured over time and apparently eventually led to the creation of a new character named Grace in the current version.

In a general summary, if these revelations are true, Resident Evil 9 has undergone radical transformation and changes during its development cycle. The project, which was originally intended to bring together several popular heroes of the franchise in one large open-world work and create an action-oriented experience, has now become a more focused and story-oriented title centered on the character of Leanne Kennedy.
