Obsession Star Inde Navarette says she studied anime such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer to learn screenwriting.

Inde Navarre, best known for playing Nikki Freeman in Obsession, says he's delved deeply into anime to better understand screenwriting and storytelling while he waits for his star to rise.

Navarre's breakout role as Nikki in Obsession didn't make her an overnight star. In fact, there was a time between the completion of the film and its final release when he wasn't sure what the future of his career would hold.

During that period, he began streaming games on Twitch for a living, and even began studying storytelling in film and television by watching some of his favorite anime series – notably Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on October 14, he said, "I switched to studying movies and watching movies and asking, 'Why do I like them?'" "What I like is anime, so why do I like it? I mean, Jujutsu Kaisen is a pretty cool anime, but why is it any different than Demon Slayer? Why is it so different from other anime? With Jujutsu Kaisen, they're playing with timelines, right? With Demon Slayer, they have this story line and how does that affect me?"

I really thought, "Why is kaizen jujutsu so good?" And I learned about timelines and storytelling — how someone can have a monologue at the beginning of an episode that's important two episodes later or even at the end, and that person is dead and you don't learn it until then — and then connect that to me. Screenwriting and trying to learn that way."

Navarre is a self-proclaimed nerd. In addition to loving anime, he's also a huge gamer, as evidenced by his (now cleaned) Twitch channel. He was also delighted at a fan meeting when a fan gave him a sealed copy of Modern Warfare 2 that was still in his display case back in July.

He even dabbles in voice acting and says one of his dream projects is to voice a character in a Resident Evil game. "I'm going to try something smaller to test the waters, and then later, [something] different, because obviously video games are my big passion," he said in an interview in August. "I love that world, specifically - the Resident Evil world."

Currently, Navarre is gearing up to play Rogue in Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot, assuring fans that he's giving it his all.

"I do everything humanly possible because I love that character," Navarre said. "I've studied that character. I want to do justice to myself, to [director Jake Scherer], to what they want to portray and also to what I want him to be as a fan. I do everything, exclamation point."

Given that he plans to start voice acting, it makes it possible that maybe we'll hear him in an English dub one day... maybe in the next season of Jujutsu Kaisen?
