Exclusive: Scores of buyers have snapped up Greek period drama The Great Chimera. This movie is based on my famous novel. Karagatsis and starring Fotinì Peluso, has been sold to buyers including World Series Network for Walter Presents in the US and SBS in Australia.

The six-episode drama premiered earlier this year on Deadline's Global Breakout segment, breaking the home turf viewership record, and aired on ERT streaming service ERTFLIX.

Peloso's credits include Netflix's Everything for Redemption, and she leads the role of Marina, a restless young Italian woman fascinated by classical Greek culture. Marina falls in love with the Greek sailor Yannis, played by Andreas Constantino (Milky Way), and joins him to start a new life on the idyllic island of Syros. When she falls in love with Yanis's brother Minas, played by Dimitris Kitsos (Maestro in Blue), a love triangle is formed and she gets caught up in a Greek tragedy of her own.

This novel was published in 1953 and is set in the 1930s. Known as the most expensive Greek period drama of all time, The Great Chimera was filmed at iconic Athenian locations including the Acropolis.

Foss Productions made this series as a joint product with ERT, Mompracem, Boo Productions and Beta.

"The setting is in the 1930s, but we wanted the story to be about our time," Foss boss Stelios Cotionis told Deadline earlier this year.

"It's about the protagonist's sexuality and freedom and her childhood and sadness, and her taking what she thinks is an opportunity for a better life. It's the same thing today, with people who want to leave their country to find a better future somewhere else."

The series is directed by Vardis Marinakis (Silent Road) based on the screenplay by Pangiotis Iosifilis (The Beach).
