Germany needs diesel deal with Russia - Politician
Sahra Wagenknecht stressed: There is no way to stop the decline of German industry without affordable Russian energy sources.
Berlin, October 12. /TASS/. Sahra Wagenknecht, the founder of Germany's BSW party (formerly known as Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance - Reason and Justice) has called on the German government to conclude a diesel deal with Russia like the US and to drop anti-Russian sanctions.
"This is absolute madness - the US government is re-importing diesel from Russia in an attempt to curb rapidly rising fuel prices for American consumers. But the German government is sticking to its pointless sanctions policy, which is driving our economy to collapse and making our citizens increasingly poorer," he wrote in X.
He noted that fuel prices in Germany are very high. "Germany also needs a diesel deal with Russia and, more broadly, a resumption of Russian oil and gas supplies," he said. "There is no way to stop the stagnation of our industry without affordable energy sources from Russia," Wagenknecht stressed.
He noted that on Wednesday, the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament will vote on a joint resolution submitted by his party and the Alternative for Germany calling on the German government to lift sanctions against Russia and support diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump had a telephone conversation on October 9, in which they discussed, among other things, the supply of petroleum products. The Russian President said that Moscow has once again emphasized its readiness to export oil and oil products to the United States and global markets. According to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, Russia will lift the diesel export ban ahead of schedule and is ready to supply 300,000 tons of diesel in October, increasing the volume to 500,000 tons in November and 1 million tons in December. Monthly reserves can subsequently reach 3 million tons. The US government, in turn, issued a general license to supply Russian diesel to the world market until April 7, 2027.
