What is the MTG Darkhold Destiny Arcanum: Inside bundle and is it worth the price tag?
The MTG Marvel Darkhold Destiny Arcanum Bundle features unique alt-art promotional cards and booster packs. Here's a breakdown of what's inside and whether it's worth the $100 pre-order price tag.
Pre-orders are now open for Marvel's next Magic: The Gathering crossover, Darkhold Destiny. Amazon has already listed the Darkhold Destiny Arcanum Bundle for $99.99 sold directly by the retailer, which is quickly becoming one of the most popular items from the new collection.
By comparison, the TCGplayer trading card marketplace is asking $200 for the same package, so Amazon is $100.01 cheaper. On the other hand, you shouldn't consider TCGplayer's lowest price to be the best listing on the site in the short term, as there are currently only two sellers. We expect more to appear over time.
In the meantime, the Darkhold Destiny Arcanum Bundle has an interesting collection in terms of content, and whether or not it's worth the price depends more or less on what you're looking for.
What's inside the Arcanum Darkhold Destiny pack?
Along with a collectible booster (Alt-art Arcanum promo cards and Full-Art Lands), you'll also get eight regular booster packs in the Arcanum Darkhold Destiny pack.
If you're the kind of Magic: The Gathering type that usually likes to go for fancier treatments — like ingredient cards, silver foil editions, and raised midnight foils — that's an extra bang for your hundred bucks right now.
On the other hand, don't think you're guaranteed one of the rarest achievements, as Mythic Rares only have a 1% chance of appearing in Collector Boosters.
Personally, I think it's the hype that makes this one worth it. You get a total of three foils: a traditional Mythic Rare foil, and two of the six traditional foil promos - the latter being Arcanum cards with alternate art that's exclusive to the bundle.
The remaining extras include the original 30 terrains, including ten full Bifrost terrains (five foils and five non-foils), a large Spindown life counter, and a dedicated storage box.
As for Darkhold Destiny itself, first impressions suggest that if you're a fan of Marvel's previous Super Heroes, or want to try out the new crossovers, this looks like a definite Magic: The Gathering.
The story behind it is another interesting one, with Dormammu and Hela using a page from the Darkhold to tear apart realities and spread "secret nightmares across the multiverse," as Wizards of the Coast puts it. All the standard comic book fun.
However, as for the value of the Darkhold Destiny Arcanum pack, Amazon lists the regular nine-pack for $69.99, while the Draft Night with 12 boosters and a collectible booster costs $119.99. If you're more into getting as many packs as possible, I'd recommend making the last two your top priority.
The regular Mythic Rare promotional bundle has its own unique mechanics. It doesn't just pack alternate art cards and collectible boosters like the Arcanum edition.
Anyway, the Arcanum bundle is totally worth it if you want a good amount of bundles and some unique foil promos to go with it - pretty much a must-buy for avid Magic collectors.
There are currently no other listings other than Amazon's $99.99 and TCGplayer's $200 listings, so we recommend purchasing the former if you wish before the sale.
