68 Percent of Accidents Caused by Failure to Watch the Road Ahead and Inability to Control the Vehicle
Economic pressure, family problems, job-related anxiety, and daily tensions can lower individuals' thresholds for tolerance. Driving under such conditions sometimes becomes a situation in which a person discharges accumulated anger.
Continuous honking, dangerous overtaking, not giving way or a minor collision may become a trigger for this anger. Some drivers think that they should have the right of way, the space of movement and even the time of others. When the driver thinks that the probability of being detected and fined is low, he may consider the violation as less costly. If dealing with violations such as dangerous movements, illegal overtaking or aggressive driving is not serious and continuous, the law alone cannot correct the behavior of drivers. Driving behavior is not formed in a vacuum. A person who regularly witnesses aggression and disregard for the rights of others in the family, work environment or public space may repeat the same pattern behind the wheel. When breaking the law becomes a normal behavior, obeying the law may even be seen as a sign of weakness by some people. Long traffic, delay on the way and worrying about being late, creates a feeling of helplessness and tiredness. In such situations, some drivers speed up, constantly change lanes or collide with others to make up for lost time.
Researches in the field of traffic psychology also consider congestion and time pressure as factors that aggravate aggressive driving. One of the important points about driving violence is that sometimes the driver instead of passing a dispute, decides to teach the other driver a lesson or punish him. Chasing another car, braking suddenly to scare the driver behind, blocking the road and even getting off to fight are examples of this behavior. In this situation, the goal is no longer to reach the destination; The person wants to win the argument. For some people, the car becomes a space where they feel more empowered and think they can express their anger without serious consequences. The physical distance between drivers and their relative anonymity may reduce the intensity of social consideration and lead to behaviors that a person commits less in a face-to-face encounter. If driving education focuses mainly on technical skills, rules and passing the test, it may not be enough to develop a driver. In addition to knowing the rules, the driver must also learn how to manage anger, respect the rights of others, maintain a safe distance, and how to react to others' mistakes.
The lack of sufficient space for the movement of cars, accident-prone spots, inappropriate markings, lack of safe routes, and the interference of the movement of cars with pedestrians and motorcycles can increase the possibility of tension and accidents. Of course, infrastructural problems alone do not explain violence, but they may aggravate the conditions of its occurrence. The World Health Organization also emphasizes the role of safe road design, speed management and effective enforcement of laws. When a driver sees others ignoring a red light, moving in an illegal lane, or honking and threatening, he may come to the conclusion that obeying the law is not only useless, but also causes him to fall behind. In such an atmosphere, individual violation becomes a collective pattern and law-abiding behavior seems more difficult, and ultimately these violations lead to accidents and even the death of some citizens. In this report, "Trust" has discussed the most important causes and factors of driving accidents.
The most important cause of accidents is drivers and their behavior
Abolfazl Mousavipour, the head of the Greater Tehran Traffic Police, has announced about the number of fatalities in accidents in the first five months of this year: "305 people have died in accidents in the first five months of this year, and the cause of more than 35% of accidents was due to the driver's lack of attention to the front and lack of concentration." Although in the first five months of the year, compared to the previous year, we have faced a 17% decrease in the number of deaths in accidents and 61 fewer people were killed in accidents, but this is not good for us and for the capital. Even one dead person is too much for us and many factors work together to make this accident happen. According to statistics, more than 35% of accidents occur due to not paying attention to the front, when the driver does not concentrate on driving. This lack of concentration can be caused by sleepiness, using mobile phones and talking to the person next to you. Also, some drivers get lost in their own thoughts and think about various issues such as debts and problems and do not notice driving at all. Some drivers do not realize that this vehicle and this chariot of death that is moving and this iron giant that is moving on the roads, is moving and does not stop and does not know what the driver is thinking. The driver puts his foot on the gas, but his thoughts and concentration are somewhere else, and this causes him not to see the front in time and not to react in time and an accident occurs, and as a result of this lack of concentration in driving, it leads to various accidents in which the driver of the car may collide with another car, pedestrian, motorcycle or even tables and bring disaster. Unfortunately, we see that some drivers are moving on their way and follow the rules, but suddenly another driver from the opposite lane collides with these people and causes them to die, which is very painful. Today, every damage accident brings at least several millions of damages, and a person has to sacrifice his life and work to fix the vehicle. If the accident is an injury, a person may break his arm and leg and miss a few months from work and life, all of which are caused by carelessness. If we want to curb accidents, we say that humans, roads and vehicles play a role, but the role of humans is the most important, because in addition to driving, it is humans who build roads and vehicles, and if these humans observe their social responsibility, accidents will not occur. The most important cause of accidents is drivers and their behavior, and other cases such as road defects or technical defects are subsequent causes.
Motorcycle riders have the largest share of accident victims with 49%
The head of the Greater Tehran Traffic Police further pointed out the number of fatalities due to accidents last year and compared it with this year and stated: "In the first half of 1404, a total of 365 people died in accidents, of which 140 were pedestrians, 172 were motorcycle riders, 25 were motorcycle passengers, 17 were car passengers, and 53 were car drivers. This number decreased to 304 people in the first half of this year, which included 109 pedestrians, 148 motorcycle riders, 27 motorcycle riders, 21 car passengers and 47 car drivers. Like last year, motorcyclists accounted for the largest share of accident deaths with 49%. The main cause of their death is a direct blow to the head due to not wearing a helmet. 35% of accidents occur due to not paying attention to the front and 33% due to the inability to control the vehicle; That is, in total, 68% of accidents are caused by these two factors, and the most common reason for not paying attention to the front is using a mobile phone while driving. Failure to control the vehicle is also caused by violating the safe speed; A violation that makes the driver unable to control the vehicle in time. Also, in October 1405 compared to October 1404, we saw a 12% decrease in traffic. In 1404, 2,230 cars were moved to the parking lot by a crane and 2,900 cars were moved by the owner, totaling 5,130 abandoned cars. In 1405, this project started in August and so far 156 cars have been moved to the parking lot by a crane and 285 cars have been moved by the owner; A total of 441 abandoned cars were collected. So far, there have been 18,000 enforcements of the smoky vehicles law, 130,000 technical inspection cancellations, 630,000 night violations enforcements, and 12,000 enforcements of the xenon lights law.
Mousavipour also said: "Talking on a cell phone while driving, tiredness and sleepiness, eating and drinking while driving, and things like that, distract the driver and, as a result, do not pay attention to the front, which is the cause of accidents and mishaps." However, the violation of talking on a cell phone while driving, in addition to a fine, also entails recording a negative score in the license records. According to Article 7 of the Traffic Violation Law, using a mobile phone or similar communication devices while driving at a speed above 60 km/h will result in 3 negative points for a private car and 5 negative points for a public car. If these negative scores are repeated, they can lead to the confiscation of the license and even its cancellation, and drivers should know that not paying attention to the front is not just a momentary mistake, but a consequence that can endanger the life of the driver and other citizens. Driving with full concentration is the easiest and most effective way to prevent accidents. Put away the cell phone before starting the car, avoid driving while tired, and postpone eating and drinking until safe stops. "Every time you get behind the wheel, you have your life, the lives of the passengers in your car, and the lives of others in your hands."
