Frontman Billy Corgan was working on a solo album when The Smashing Pumpkins were invited to contribute an original song to the film. Corgan enlisted the help of producer Butch Vig to help choose a song that would best fit the world of Panem during the 50th Hunger Games and the second quarterback, which features Haymitch Abernathy (Joseph Zada).

The accompanying music video for the song features purple smoke, matching the purple and yellow smoke that fills the arena in the Sunrise on the Reaping trailers. Watch on Deadline

"Black Stars" joins Noah Kahan's "Draw You Out," the first announced single from the album, which will likely include tracks from other notable artists. Some are suspected of having Lizzie McAlpine, Kacey Musgraves, Hoosier, etc.

The soundtrack to the fifth Hunger Games movie comes as no surprise to readers, viewers and fans who have been tracking the series' musical moves since the release of the original trilogy of books and as the basis for a quartet of films starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and more.

Taylor Swift wrote "Fat. Civil Wars" on the first film, which was released in 2012, as well as "Eyes Open" for the soundtrack. Lorde wrote "Yellow Flicker Beat" for Mockingjay Part 1. Olivia Rodrigo wrote "Can't Catch Me Now" for The Ballad of Songbirds and "Coldlase Snakes".

This post will be updated as the soundtrack continues to be released. Watch the music video for "Black Stars" below.
