The Car Tehran Has Been Missing / Smart #2 Unveiled in Paris

At a time when carmakers around the world are fixated on building bulky, heavyweight SUVs, the unveiling of a two-seat city car is exactly what megacities like Tehran need. With the new #2 model presented at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, the Smart brand, after 30 years, has returned to its original roots to prove that daily urban commuting does not require four-wheeled tanks.

At a time when the world's car manufacturers are obsessed with making wide and heavy SUVs, the unveiling of a two-seater transport vehicle is exactly what metropolises like Tehran need. By introducing the new #2 model at the 2026 Paris Auto Show, the Smart brand has returned to its original roots after 30 years to prove that there is no need for four-wheeled tanks for daily commuting in the city.

Amir Masoud Abedin: Smart 2# with a length of only 2.74 meters is a car that is designed exactly for crowded streets and rare parking spaces. The design of this product is still done under the supervision of Mercedes-Benz, and its completely new platform is the result of cooperation with the Chinese automobile giant, Geely. This small electric hatchback with an exceptional turning radius of 6.95 meters has such high maneuverability that it completely eliminates the nightmare of parking and turning around in narrow alleys for drivers.

Authenticity in appearance and transformation under the skin

The exterior design of Smart #2 with the combination of two body colors, the placement of wheels in the four corners of the chassis and the two-piece trunk lid is reminiscent of the popular formula of the first generation of Smart. The famous Tridion safety structure has also been upgraded and in the form of the new Tridion Cell Evo structure, it guarantees the safety of the passengers of this modern matchbox.

Technically, this car is developed on the exclusive ECA platform. An 80-horsepower electric motor with a torque of 130 Nm is placed on the rear axle, which provides acceleration from zero to 100 km/h in 11.6 seconds and a maximum speed of 140 km/h; Numbers that are too much for a fully urban car.

Light weight, new battery and practical features

Smart #2 with a weight of 1140 kg is considered one of the lightest electric cars in the market. The presence of a five-link suspension system in the rear axle and a low center of gravity, thanks to the placement of the battery in the floor of the car, has significantly improved its ride quality and stability.

The 35.8 kWh LFP battery pack of this car offers a driving range of up to 290 km (according to the WLTP standard). Support for DC fast charging with a power of 65 kW makes charging the battery from 10 to 80% in only 20 minutes. In addition, V2L technology is also considered so that the car battery charge can be used to turn on peripheral electrical devices.

Smart cabin without overdoing the displays

Inside the room, Smart has managed to create a good balance between small dimensions and daily needs. A 10.1-inch central display and an 8.8-inch cluster are located in front of the driver. Despite the very compact dimensions, the trunk space is 305 liters, which reaches 527 liters when the seats are folded down. The attractive feature of the two-piece trunk door has been preserved so that small items can be thrown into the trunk through the rear window without having to open the door completely.

This car is equipped with complete safety equipment including 7 airbags, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistant, blind spot radar and rear camera.

Pricing and time to market

Smart 2# pre-sales have started in key European markets, including Germany, France and Belgium, with a base price of around 20,000 euros (approximately $22,400). The special and full-option Couture Edition, which is limited to only 999 units, is available at a price of 25,500 euros, which benefits from a panoramic roof, Sennheiser sound system, heated seats and golden details.

This two-seater electric car, which is produced in China, will enter the streets of Europe from the first half of next year to give a new life to the urban transportation sector.
