US May Use Super-Powerful "Mother of All Bombs" Against Iran

According to the television network, if US President Donald Trump orders a resumption of hostilities, Iran's energy infrastructure and nuclear facilities could be targeted.

New York, October 15. /TASS/. Citing sources, CNN reported that the United States is considering the possibility of attacking Iran with the GBU-43/B (MOAB) highly explosive aerial bomb, unofficially known as the "mother of all bombs."

According to this TV channel, if US President Donald Trump orders the resumption of hostilities, Iran's energy infrastructure and nuclear facilities may be targeted. CNN noted that the MOAB weighs more than 9.5 tons and is the most powerful non-nuclear bomb in the US military's arsenal. However, its ability to achieve the strategic goals announced by President Trump is questionable. The broadcaster noted that its use would be a significant escalation in the US conflict with Tehran.

A CNN source noted that the White House has ordered the military to develop more plans for strikes against Iran, including "a lot of energy infrastructure" on the target list, and planning for the potential use of MOABs. According to another unnamed source, the US military plans to attack Iran's nuclear facilities and a site near Natanz that is said to be hidden under Mount Kalang. "The president has unfortunately put himself in a position where he almost has to do something, and without munitions designed to penetrate at that level <…> you have to look at the psychological effects that the MOAB is equipped for," a source told CNN.

According to radio and television reports, many members of the United States government believe that the only way to defeat Iran is a large-scale operation with the presence of ground forces, which could lead to the death of thousands of American soldiers. The Pentagon is considering all options, including this one. However, so far no one in the government has insisted on a ground operation. CNN reported that Trump has also made it clear that he is not interested in sending American troops to Iran.
