Snap Inc., the maker of Snapchat, has started pre-orders for its first augmented reality (AR) glasses - SPECS. It is expected to launch in the US, UK and France in the fall of 2026.
Where to pre-order Snap's upcoming SPECS AR glasses
SPECS is designed to be a pair of glasses that you can wear every day for a long time. It's made from a flexible and lightweight Swiss TR90 thermoplastic and comes in two sizes – 47mm and 52mm – with the smaller weighing 4.6 ounces. The glasses are heavier than a standard pair of glasses, but that's remarkable given the fact that SPECS is equipped with advanced optics and a wearable personal computer. Pre-order pricing is set at $2,195, which includes a $200 refundable deposit to lock in your reservation.
SPECS is marketed as the most advanced consumer AR glasses
Instead of an actual display, SPECS uses transparent waveguide technology to display user interface elements on ordinary-looking lenses without compromising your spatial awareness. Alternatively, it can display an immersive full-color screen with a 51-degree field of view, the equivalent of a 115-inch cinema screen from about 10 feet away. The glasses are electrochromatic, meaning they automatically tint based on lighting conditions and are prescription compatible.
The integrated computer is equipped with two Snapdragon processors and uses the exclusive Snap OS 2.0 operating system. Thanks to an array of built-in RGB and cameras and sensors, SPECS is able to combine computer vision, contextual awareness and AI assistance to understand the user's surroundings and deliver relevant information and experiences in real-time. Because SPECS was developed by Snap, an established company with years of research in augmented reality, it can leverage the company's existing AR ecosystem and Lens platform.
SPECS is an offline experience with an estimated battery life of 4 hours under mixed performance. Don't you think this period is enough for you? SPECS includes a charging case that can extend your total usage time up to 20 hours.
No, not everyone can spend $2,100 on glasses. But if you're a creator looking for an innovative way to produce content, a professional looking for spatial productivity tools, a traveler looking for an alternative to traditional screen-based computing, or just someone interested in AI-powered wearable tech, the practical benefits (and cool factor) could be worth the price of admission.
